Removes the content, not just the view

Redact a PDF

Drag a box over anything that has to go. The page is then rebuilt from pixels, so what was underneath is not covered up — it stops existing.

Why this one works differently

Most redaction tools draw a black rectangle on top of the page. The words underneath are still in the file — selectable, copyable, and readable by anyone who opens it in a text editor. People have lost cases that way.

Marked pages are rebuilt as images, with the marked areas removed from those pixels. Those pages lose their searchable text layer and may increase the file size. Pages without marks are preserved. The tool checks that no text can be extracted from the rebuilt pages before offering a download. Review every page and any document metadata before sharing: information outside your marks is not automatically removed.

What Redact PDF does

Redact PDF is a browser-based Filozy tool built for this task: Deletes the content underneath, not just a black box over it. It runs on this device, creates a separate result, and does not require an account or document upload.

Use Redact PDF to search private words or exact phrases across the document, include scanned pages with local OCR, and review every marked area before saving. A true redaction removes the covered content rather than drawing a black rectangle that can be moved or copied through. Filozy performs the work inside this tab; your document is not uploaded.

How to redact pdf in your browser

  1. Choose one PDFSelect one PDF from the dropzone. Filozy reads it locally and shows the relevant preview or controls before changing anything.
  2. Find or mark private contentSearch a name, account number, email address, or phrase and mark all matches, or drag boxes by hand. Local OCR can read scanned pages with no text layer.
  3. Create and check the resultRun the tool, review the reported page count, size, or notes, then save the newly created file while keeping the original.

Before you start

  • Work on a copy and keep the untouched original in a safe location.
  • Confirm that you are authorized to remove protection, redact information, or sign the document.
  • Understand whether the result is a visual mark, access control, permanent removal, or archival conversion.

Limits worth knowing

  • Every suggested or manually marked area must be reviewed. Keep the original until the saved copy has been searched and visually inspected.

Frequently asked questions

What is Redact PDF used for?

Redact PDF is a browser-based Filozy tool built for this task: Deletes the content underneath, not just a black box over it. It runs on this device, creates a separate result, and does not require an account or document upload.

Can I use Redact PDF on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Redact PDF works in a current mobile browser. Complex PDFs can need more memory, so keep the tab open, avoid switching apps during processing, and inspect the result before closing the page.

Does Redact PDF upload my file?

No. The selected file is opened and processed by code running in this browser tab. Document bytes and filenames are not sent to Filozy.

Will this change my original file?

No. Browsers cannot silently overwrite the file you selected. Filozy creates a separate result for you to save or pass to another local tool.

What should I check after using Redact PDF?

Review every red box before saving. Filozy then verifies that each redacted page contains no extractable text. Keep the original until the new output has been opened and checked.

Do I need an account or subscription?

No account is required for this browser-side tool. It runs on the device and does not use a document-upload allowance or daily server quota.
